The Story Behind Ma's Goodie's Natural Skincare Line

There is a story behind every Ma's Goodie's product.

What started as a love of making things by hand has grown into a New Zealand skincare and artisan soap business, with products created in small batches in Auckland.

Our goal has always been quite simple: to create skincare and soaps that are enjoyable to use, thoughtfully made, and inspired by the ingredients we love.

Where It All Began

Ma's Goodie's grew from a desire to make skincare differently.

Rather than simply reaching for another shop-bought product, I became interested in what went into the products we were using and how they felt on the skin.

I started experimenting with making my own soaps and skincare products, learning about ingredients, formulations, and the process of creating products from scratch.

There were plenty of experiments along the way — some better than others! — but with each batch came a little more knowledge and a better understanding of what makes a handmade product special.

Over time, that hobby developed into Ma's Goodie's.

Why Handmade Skincare?

There is something special about making natural skincare in small batches.

It gives us the opportunity to pay attention to the ingredients, textures, fragrances, and overall experience of each product.

We don't want skincare to feel complicated. We want our products to be things you look forward to using as part of your everyday routine.

From a beautifully scented bar of soap to a rich body butter or a carefully put-together gift set, the little details matter.

Ingredients Matter

We love working with a mixture of natural and naturally inspired ingredients, including plant oils, botanical ingredients, butters, clays, and other carefully selected cosmetic ingredients.

We're particularly drawn to ingredients that have an interesting story or a connection to nature.

One example is New Zealand manuka honey, which we use in several of our handmade products.

Another is kawakawa, one of New Zealand's best-known native plants and an ingredient we've enjoyed exploring in our skincare range.

Being a New Zealand-made business is an important part of Ma's Goodie's.

Our products are handcrafted in Auckland, New Zealand, and we love being able to create products here that are enjoyed by customers both locally and further afield.

For us, being NZ-made isn't just something to put on a label. It's part of our story.
